Albert Hammond Jr - 'Momentary Masters'

7/10

As the powerhouse behind The Strokes, Albert Hammond Jr has never come up short of new and interesting ideas. His eclectic direction and approach to songwriting has been a hallmark of his solo career, but after seven years since we last heard the guitarist on his own, has he been able to maintain that same creative spark?

While the short answer is yes, Hammond Jr has looked to make this new release the first of a new, more focused effort. 'Momentary Masters' has the same wild nature as his previous work '¿Cómo Te Llama?', but what makes this album such a refreshing listen is its lack of pretence. The joy and uplifting feel you get from each track is an infectious delight that make for an extremely easy listen.

It certainly holds up to the work we best know him for, but this new attitude within his work is certainly something to admire. Breaking off the shackles of being just another Strokes side-project, Albert Hammond Jr has proved himself to be a fully formed and competent songwriter in his now right.
