ARTIST OF THE WEEK: No. 226 Ida Mae

Having spent the last few months continuously touring and recording their debut album, hotly-tipped husband-and-wife duo Ida Mae are soon to make an impact in Britain after announcing their first UK tour, and have shared their latest offering to celebrate.

Mixing up classic country tones with a soulful vibe, Chris Turpin and Stephanie Jean have been making waves in their homeland of the United States for the last year, which goes to explain the powerfully emotional new single 'If You Don't Love Me'. Yet unlike most other country acts being exported these last couple of years, the pair have this wonderfully accessible quality, that sees them branch out into being so much more than their contemporary counterparts.

“This is one of the first songs we wrote for the record,” the duo said of the new single. “Ethan encouraged us to perform very intimate vocal takes, everyone playing live side by side in the same room late at night. ‘If You Don’t Love Me’ embodies the simplicity and honesty of the record as a whole. We worked to marry uncommon sonic textures on the record, spanning the decades of our influences. This can be heard in the organic sound of my 1930s National Duolian steel guitar and a 1980s digital auto harp.”

Ida Mae are set to release their debut album on Thirty Tigers this Summer, and will play a string of shows in the UK throughout March, including London's Oneara on the 13th. Have a listen to their new single 'If You Don't Love Me' in the player below.
