ARTIST OF THE WEEK: No. 236 shey baba

Every now and again, you hear a voice that just completely blows you away, and this is exactly how we felt when we switched onto LA-based artist shey baba. After first emerging with his debut single 'Requiem' back in 2017, the frontman has now blossomed into a fully-fledged musical juggernaut and he plans to capitalise on his newfound attention by releasing his eagerly-awaited debut album next month.

Previewed by the dual video for his recent singles ‘Born Sick’ & ‘Vertigo’, directed by David M. Helman with cinematography from James Laxton, who is Academy Award nominated for his incredible work on Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk, the singer has brought a bold and cinematic lens to his latest releases. Filled with a stunning vocal performance and atmospheric production, shey baba looks quick to become one of the biggest talking point for the year ahead.

Speaking about his new material, he said, “I didn’t start singing or writing songs until I was 20, but once I did, I quickly realised that music was the only way I could fully express the things I needed to.”

shey baba will release his debut album 'Requiem' on the 10th May via Virgin EMI, and will also be performing at this year's Live At Leeds and The Great Escape festivals. Check out the stunning video for 'Born Sick' and 'Vertigo' in the player below.
