The future-pop movement has always been one of the most favoured emerging genres of the last decade. Its ability to be both commercial accessible and abstract in its production makes it appealing to both the mainstream and the underground, and it is this fundamental truth that has seen the likes of AlunaGeorge and Charli XCX soar in popularity. Now it seems that New York-based duo Lion Babe have begun to cut their own path to the mainstream with their latest single 'Wonder Woman'.
Having already made a cult impact with the release of their self-titled EP last year, featuring the tracks 'Treat Me Like Fire' and the Childish Gambino featured 'Jump Hi', the pair have already kicked off 2015 with one of their most high-profile releases to date.
The Pharrell Williams produced 'Wonder Woman' is that subtle blend of out-of-the-box production and commendable songwriting that gives the track such an instant rapport with the listener. Its brooding yet uplifting sound is the perfect balance to what makes a well-circulated pop tune in this current time, and will no doubt be a massive talking point in the months to come.
While hype is still very much low-key for the couple at the moment, with any more music like this, we are sure to be hearing a lot more of them as we move into festival season.
