What has been the most prominent inspiration behind your music so far?

My dad for sure, growing up in a home that always had music playing when I got home from school definitely sparked my love for music. My dad has a varied music taste so I grew up being lucky enough to go and see live music all the time and I’ve taken on his guilty pleasure of George Michael.

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

All sorts, I loved the classic noughties bands from TLC, Destiny’s Child and Aaliyah. My sister and I use to have Usher confessions on repeat (still on repeat though, he’s great) but then I also had a questionable Emo phase where I loved MCR, Enter Shikari and Hadouken!

What do you find is the best environment to find inspiration for your music?

For some reason I always find the best environment for me to write is in a new space. As a creature of habit I love writing at home but I feel most inspired if I’m writing on a new piano or someone else’s guitar, I’m not really sure why, I guess it feels like I’m writing from a different perspective.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Jordan Rakei, Cleo Sol, Arlo Parks, Raveena and always my all time favourites Joni Mitchell and Laura Marling.

How many of your songs have you written about people you wish you’d rather forget?

Too many! I’m grateful for these people because it helps you evolve as a person. Going through heartbreak and awkward experiences has given me the opportunity to write my favourite songs, as well as a creative outlet to unload your emotions.

What has been the funniest moment in your career so far?

Well not quite career related... But an embarrassing music related story is that when I was younger I loved watching MTV music videos. I decided to cut up my jeans, go downstairs and perform the Christina Agularia dirty dance in front of my family, they were mortified and will never let me live it down.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Cleo sol, the dream!

If you weren’t a musician, what other path do you think you might have taken?

I was actually talking to my boyfriend the other day about this, I’ve always thought if I didn’t have music or photography I’d love to be an interior designer or architect. Random, but I use to draw plans of car parks when I was little, I really admire the way architecture is more than just a physical environment but how place-making can have such a positive impact on communities and shape our lives in ways we don’t often realise.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

It’s so easy to get overwhelmed when juggling every day life with music and writing. One thing I’ve learnt over time and my family have always told me is to take one thing at a time. Don’t worry about it until it happens and take each day as it comes!
