Getting To Know... Primo Danger

Dallas-based indie rock outfit Primo Danger return with their most emotionally charged release to date, 'Waiting', a guitar-driven anthem tackling the harsh realities of gun violence in America.

Built from Jackson’s initial bedroom demo, the track quickly came to life through collaboration with the full band and engineer Greg, who helped refine its explosive energy. The result is a towering track that fuses raw indie-rock textures with a post-punk urgency, delivering a blistering protest song that pulls no punches.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with them to find out more about their background and what has been inspiring them most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Guitar. I started off on some Yamaha guitar when I was 13ish and slowly started picking up other instruments like bass, drums and some keys.. just doing everything I could to start writing on my own as I liked writing songs on guitar but needed more accompaniment.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I became really keen on punk music at a younger age. I listened to a lot of different rock variants before that, but I just REALLY liked the energy, message and nature of punk music, would watch shows from the 80’s on youtube from bands like Dead Kennedy’s and Black Flag and just craved more and more.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Honestly, it was probably a Britney Spears album in the first grade… went in on those pop bangers.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Toxic by Britney Spears - that instrumental BANGS.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I mainly just write instrumentals when I'm feeling it or have some riff pop up in my head… I let those works stack up and then come back to them later when I'm feeling some kind of way towards them and get to writing lyrics later. I tend to keep the instrumental & lyric writing process pretty separate for me. Also, a lot of caffeine.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Youth Lagoon, Foxing, Viagra Boys, and Mac Demarco off of the top of my head… really depends on the mood but definitely Mac if i’m trying to mellow out.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Britney Spears so i can make my first grade self proud… Britney if you’re reading this go back on tour.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

I really like when people connect with the lyrics. I wrote a lot of my older ones in a darker time personally, and when someone says it helped them out in some way or that it inspired them it really makes me happy. Also show energy is always super fun.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Scheduling band practice for sure… we’re 5 busy ass dudes.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Tbh have not received a lot of advice on this front lmao but really it’s just to ensure you’re being authentic and writing something you feel inspired by… best songs i’ve written have tended to fall out of me in a few hours.
