Getting To Know... Saticöy

Following on from a string of fresh and impressive cuts over the last few years, LA-based outfit Saticöy are back to their breezy ways on the sun-kissed new single 'Nice & Easy'.

Teaming up with guest vocalist Tammy Infusino for the release, 'Nice & Easy' makes for a wonderfully warm and woozy return for the group. Filled with laid-back tones, sweeping hooks, and some wonderfully tranquil vocals at the helm, this new one is definitely a track to kick back and relax to.

So with the new single available now, we sat down with them to find out more about their background and what has inspired them most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Derek (Guitarist/Singer) - Guitar. My brother had one when i was younger, but never touched it… So i decided to steal it from him & immediately fell in love.

Jaron (Drums/Production) - Drums. I was really good at rock band as a kid. Had to show my dad that I had a talent for it on the game so that he’d be convinced to get me a kit.

Jon (Bass/Multi-Inst) - I started playing guitar at a young age & trained at school of rock in Cleveland, OH. Thats when I really fell in love with performing.

Tim (Keys/Synth/Saxophone) - The saxophone: endlessly expressive and versatile.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

Jazz, grunge, pop, metal, ska, blues... everything!

What was the first album you remember owning?

Tim- "Is This It"- The Strokes.

Derek - “Dookie” - Green Day
.

Jon - “Stankonia” - Outkast!

Jaron - “Ocean Avenue” - Yellowcard.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Derek - “Time in a Bottle” - Jim Croce.

Jaron - “Eventually” - Tame Impala.

Tim - “Jungleland" - Bruce Springsteen.

Jon - “Stayin Alive” - Bee Gees.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Start with the why. Why do we need to write a song? Who are we trying to connect with? What are we feeling and how do we want this to relate to others?

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Kaytranada, Dijon, Tame Impala, Jim E Stacks.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Tame Impala. I caught them on their tour and it was one of the best shows I’ve been to. Insane production value and musicianship.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

I’m torn. On one hand, it’s humbling being in the driver's seat and helping to guide modern culture and worldview. On the other hand, the visceral experience of performing something I wrote and connecting with a crowed in a moment is incredible.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Getting our music heard by people who we think would really resonate with it in an industry as oversaturated as the music industry is can be a real drag.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

"Luck is when preparation meets opportunity”.

"Your thoughts become words. Your words become actions. Your actions become habits, which defines your sound. Your sound becomes your destiny".
