HEALTH - 'DISCO4 :: PART II'

7/10

While their sound largely inhabits the more extreme and outer limits of the noise-rock genre, HEALTH have found themselves gathering more popular momentum these last few years. After the enormous commercial success of their 2019 outing 'VOL. 4: SLAVES OF FEAR' and follow-up 'DISCO4 :: PART I' in 2020, it has become clear that they are heading closer to mainstream appeal than ever before. So now they return with one of their most ambitious records to date, 'DISCO4 :: PART II', a full-length that looks to cement their dominant rise in recent years.

What is most notable about this new collection is the sheer number of collaborations on it. With almost every track featuring a guest artist, most notably Nine Inch Nails and Lamb Of God, 'DISCO4 :: PART II' instantly marks itself as a far more diverse and adventurous release than we have heard before. While they largely look to swap out the tenacious energy for more atmospheric offerings this time around, there is this wonderfully broad and progressive texture running the length of their latest LP, giving it a richer and sometimes more experimental edge than even they have shown before.

While it labels itself as a continuation for their previous effort, 'DISCO4 :: PART II' feels far more like a bold step into the unknown for HEALTH. Now six studio albums into their catalogue, they are branching out to the outer peripheries of their sound and coming back with something far more distinctive.
