Protomartyr confront artificial intelligence, surveillance and humanity’s appetite for convenience on new single ‘Feed the Sewer’, the latest preview of their forthcoming album 'Hotel Usona'.
Arriving ahead of the record’s 25th September release through Domino, the track follows lead single ‘Sounds We Cannot Hear’ and takes a characteristically uneasy view of technological progress. Vocalist Joe Casey describes its central idea simply: artificial intelligence working against humanity, enabled by people's willingness to sacrifice increasingly large parts of their lives for convenience.
‘Feed the Sewer’ also arrives with a video directed by Andrew Theodore Balasia and starring Nate Varrone. Set within a monitored motel, it explores loneliness and surveillance by imagining individual rooms as data profiles whose occupants willingly submit to observation.
