AlunaGeorge - 'I Remember'

6/10

When the future pop duo of AlunaGeorge first emerged back in 2013, their debut album 'Body Music' redefined the commercial music scene. Combining simple pop melodies with an interesting approach to production, it gave them an instantly likeable and definable sound. Now after months of hype and drip-fed singles, the pair have returned to deliver their second full-length 'I Remember', an album that sees them set their sights on an even wider audience.

The most striking difference between this album and their last seems to be the more accessible direction they have taken, towards an American sounding position. While their debut had a mix of RnB, soul and house influences, this new work seems to be mainly set around an EDM foundation, with a production style similar to the current output of Flume and Major Lazer. While there are still glimmers of their original sound scattered throughout, it seems clear that this new material is looking to see them break the US market and hopefully prevail well.

'I Remember' has its moments but overall has too much interference from outside producers, giving it a very segregated feel. The tracks themselves are well-written but lack a pace and flow when played together, making it a harder listen than it should be.
