DC Gore - 'All These Things'

7/10

Over the last few years, singer and producer Dominic Gore established himself as the frontman of cult London outfit Little Cub. Throughout their tenure, the band would regularly move against the grain of popular appeal in pursuit of something more intrinsic and progressive, giving them this instantly definable sound that blended the conventions of electro-pop and indie-rock. But now going by DC Gore, he has looked to reinvent himself further within this sonic spectrum and delivered his eagerly-awaited debut solo album 'All These Things', a record that brings his adventurous spirit to the forefront.

While this new project and Little Cub share some similar aesthetics and ideas, the main focus of 'All These Things' is to hone in on DC Gore's personal influences. Throughout this new collection, tropes from the likes of Pulp and Pet Shop Boys can be heard within his chosen direction, covering the release with a familiar yet distinctive sheen. Literature and works of art have also been the key source of inspiration behind the lyrical content of this LP, allowing the frontman to step away from the traditional elements of a social and political focus to create something that is more prized to his own persona.

Although emerging from a formative group to go solo is never an easy task, especially when so many wish to compare you to your older work, but DC Gore has produced something that is both linked to her former self yet always looking ahead. 'All These Things' showcases his bright and inventive vision for something truly unique, and makes for a compelling listen throughout.
