Hudson Mohawke - ‘Ded Sec - Watch Dogs 2’ OST

7/10

Producer Hudson Mohawke always seems to what to challenge both himself and whoever is listening in almost every thing he does. His abrasive and forceful approach to beats and rhythm have garnered him numerous accolades over the years, but now the producer has taken his unique style to something many never do; a computer game soundtrack. And more specially, for the newly released 'Ded Sec - Watch Dogs 2'.

Unlike producing for say a film soundtrack, computer games are known for their variable story lines. Depending on the way the user plays the game can affect the scenarios in the gameplay, meaning Mohawke has in effect created a whole range of different works all designed to evoke various emotions. Yet while it would be hard to judge the music without any visual accompaniment, you can still highlight many areas where the producer has reached beyond his comfort zone and created a very ethereal and eerie collection in parts.

While the release still contains a great deal of that distinct Hud Mo sound, it is the eclectic nature of this record that makes it more than just a soundtrack and closer to fully-focused album release. Engaging yet experimental throughout, Hudson Mohawke has certainly brought out his diverse side here.
