Lonely The Brave - 'Things Will Matter'

7/10

As one of the few British rock bands to permeate the mainstream in the last few years, the following behind Lonely The Brave has been growing exponentially since the release of their 2014 debut album 'The Day's War'. Now the group are back with their much-anticipated follow up 'Things Will Matter', which on an initial listen doesn't seem to be pushing for that commercial appeal as much this time around.

While the band's sound does have this very appeal-to-all premise, much of 'Things Will Matter' is less about rocking out and more about melodic harmonies and emotional songwriting. While it still has that bite you would expect from them, a lot of this record seems to be appealing to a different audience than their first attempt. Aiming this time to appease a wider range of fans and create a more diverse full-length in the process.

It is certainly an enjoyable release, if a little underwhelming in places. But overall, 'Things Will Matter' is exactly the album you would want in a follow up. It doesn't stick to the old formula and takes risks along the way, showing that the band are still growing and evolving with their sound.
