Manchester Orchestra - 'The Million Masks Of God'

8/10

Over the last fifteen years, we have watched as Manchester Orchestra grow from a humble post-rock outfit into one of the most in-demand names in the world. Rivalling the presence of contemporaries such as Elbow and The National, the band's presence on the scene has been met with continued praise and acclaim as they look to find there own place amongst the troops. And after a few years mining away at their sound, they have returned with their sixth studio album 'The Million Masks Of God', a record that sees them soar like we have rarely heard before.

From the very start, 'The Million Masks Of God' marks itself as a bold step forward for the group. Adopting a strong mixture of killer instrumental hooks and sweeping vocals, commanded effortlessly by frontman Andy Hull, their latest effort shows them not only in renewed spirits, but in pursuit of something truly euphoric. There is captivating quality behind their intent on this new collection, showing them in a bold and proficient guise that tries to create a memorable moment within each of its songs, something that we rarely get to hear from acts in their field.

In all, their latest full-length could go down as one of their most impressive within their tenure. 'The Million Masks Of God' is not just taking things to the next level for them, it is showcasing them as a headline act with bounds of bright and enticing ideas, a demeanour they are pulling off with great confidence.
