Sigrid - 'Raw'

8/10

After breaking through last year with a bundle of incredible singles like 'Don't Kill My Vibe' and 'Strangers', Sigrid spent much of this year teasing her return with a series of new tracks that have now come together to form her latest EP. The new five-track release 'Raw' sees the future-pop titan step away from the polished and perfectly produced sound of her initial years as she aims to create something with more of a live dynamic that showcases her unbridled talent in a more organic environment.

The main theme of 'Raw' seems to be that most of these tracks was recorded in one take with very little post-production after the initial recordings. The idea obviously is to create a series of tunes that don't need to rely so heavily on spruced up production and let the music speak for itself. From the start, the EP certainly looks to deliver a different sound from what we are used to but unlike much of her older work, it really focuses on her captivating vocals, making her the true centre of this release and allowing us to see this frontwoman grow and evolve so much in such a short space of time.

And while 'High Five' remains the exception to the production rule, 'Raw' is a simply wonderful collection of tracks that leave us wanting more. Sigrid has been one of the most incredible names in the future-pop genre for more than a year and her debut album can't come too soon now.
