Yoke Lore - 'Mediations'

8/10

Over the last few years, New York's Yoke Lore has been a strong and vibrant addition to America's ever-present euphoric pop scene. As a former member of Yellerkin and Walk the Moon, Adrian Galvin's solo venture has been a source of great joy to many, thanks to his recently released EPs 'Absolutes' and 'Goodpain', which have both seen the frontman deliver bold and fascinating collections. Now as he returns with his first EP of 2019, Yoke Lore has chosen to pursue a more humbled and wistful direction as he delivers 'Mediations', a series of acoustic-led singles.

While the production on these new tracks may not be as diverse as his previous works, 'Mediations' gives us more of an insight into the songwriting of each cut. With less background noise throughout the release, we are able to truly appreciate the musical dexterity he can conjure up, which makes for a delightfully fresh and exciting return. Channeling the smooth and rich pop-rock sounds of artists such as Bastille and The Lumineers, 'Mediations' sees him bring more light into his sound, opening up his soul and indulging us in a wave of sensual and luxurious efforts.

It may not be a huge step away from his more familiar work, but 'Mediations' certainly still packs a punch whenever it can. A wonderful return from an artist that never seems to put a foot wrong.
