Sweden-based Scottish artist Alastair Macduff offers the first glimpse of his forthcoming debut solo album 'Kåtebol' with the beautifully hazy piece of dream-pop, ‘The time before us’.
Originally from Glasgow and now based in Gothenburg, the artist draws inspiration from the rural Swedish landscape surrounding the album's creation. ‘The time before us’ sits at its centre, combining gentle euphoria and melancholy with jazz-inflected touches, atmospheric electronics and a distinctly pastoral quality.
That landscape provides the foundation for 'Kåtebol', arriving on the 2nd October. Across sixteen tracks, the record tells what he describes as a loose, half-remembered story surrounding a small Swedish hamlet, moving between off-kilter dream-pop, glacial piano compositions and mist-covered lo-fi electronics.
As the first piece to emerge from the project, ‘The time before us’ makes for an enchanting introduction that feels nostalgic, cinematic and seemingly suspended somewhere between memory and landscape.
