Some releases offer an open palm and invite you to sit down beside them for a while. And 'Heading Home', the latest EP from UK songwriter Alexander Joseph, belongs firmly in that category. It’s a reflective, quietly powerful collection that leans into storytelling, acoustic warmth and spiritual introspection without ever losing its melodic pull.
Across five songs, the frontman paints a portrait of life as a winding journey, as he embraces the turbulence and tenderness of human experience; the moments when we falter, the people who steady us, and the unseen forces that guide us forward. There’s a gentle sense of faith running through the project, but it feels inclusive and universal rather than prescriptive.
The title-track opens up the EP, capturing life’s uneven rhythm, interwoven with the quiet support that helps keep us moving. His voice carries a grounded sincerity that feels lived-in, allowing us to believe every word he sings.
Elsewhere, 'St. David' draws inspiration from a journey to Wales’ smallest city, transforming coastal reflection into something almost meditative. The arrangement breathes with open space, echoing the sense of calm that often accompanies pilgrimage. Similarly, 'Still Small Voice' strips things down further, leaning into delicate instrumentation and contemplative lyrics about trusting subtle inner guidance.
'Restless War' shifts the focus outward, addressing conflict both global and personal. It’s the most urgent moment on the EP, acknowledging the chaos of the wider world while also confronting the quieter struggles that unfold within each of us. Meanwhile, 'Feels Like Home' offers a softer landing by delivering a love story that evolves gently, inspired by the seaside atmosphere of the Isle of Wight.
His background as an environmental activist and a coach within British wheelchair tennis seems to inform the resilience that runs through his music. 'Heading Home' delivers something comfort, reflection, and the reassurance that even winding paths can lead somewhere meaningful.
