With the deluxe edition of his seminal 'Whitecaps On The Hudson', the anti-folk troubadour breathes new life into its old bones, allowing it haunt us all over again.

Originally released in 2013, this album still remains just as impactful as it ever did. Block was untangling the threads of a life in flux, with sobriety’s quiet battles, love’s last embers, and the pull of a river that felt both freeing and threatening. Now with the expanded edition, we’re offered fragments that deepen the story. 'Expansion Draft' is a stunningly vivid character sketch that turns a washed-up ballplayer into an avatar for all of us fumbling in the cold, trying to keep our dignity intact. Meanwhile, 'France' and the reprise of 'Faraway' add to his own proud lyrical candour.

These tracks thrum with unfiltered energy, captured in brisk takes that feel fragile and spontaneous throughout. Produced with a raw, minimalist touch by Dean Sharenow and Erick Della Penna, the album shuns gloss in favour of stark immediacy. It’s as if you’re in the room with Block, guitar in hand, watching the past wash ashore one chord at a time.
