Chris Cornell, Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman, has died, aged 52

Chris Cornell, best known as the frontman for rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, has died, aged 52.

In a statement to the Associated Press, the singer's representative, Brian Bumbery, said Cornell died on Wednesday night in Detroit. He described the death as "sudden and unexpected", and stated that his family were shocked, but willing to work with medical examiners to determine the cause of death.

Chris Cornell was a resilient musician who always managed to find success over the years. Whether it was fronting the grunge-rock juggernauts Soundgarden during the nineties, before heading up the Rage Against The Machine project Audioslave during the 2000s, Cornell became to be considered one of the greatest vocalists in modern rock. He even went solo in the latter years, producing the title-song 'You Know My Name' for the James Bond movie 'Casino Royale'.

Although if there is any song that we should remember Cornell for, it most certainly should be the song that put him on the map. So please enjoy the 1994 Soundgarden hit 'Black Hole Sun' in the player below.
