DMGDZ - 'DMGDZ'

8/10

Over these last few years, Jamaican-Canadian rapper Grizzy Wynter has established himself as one of the more progressive names on the intentional hip-hop scene. Injecting his Caribbean heritage into everything he does has given him this wildly original sound that has proven a winning formula across countless highly-praised releases recently. And with that buzz continuing to build, he has now teamed up with emerging producer Mat Wav. for their DMGDZ project, releasing their hotly-titled self-titled EP, a collection that continues that inventive spirit throughout.

Taking cues from the more enigmatic icons on the scene like Danny Brown and Earl Sweatshirt, 'DMGDZ' looks to cement itself as a hard and ferocious introduction to the pair's direction so far. Combining bold and blistering production with Wynter's own infectious flow at every turn, this new seven-track offering delivers one hardcore punch after another as often as possible. Blending a mix of UK drill, reggaeton, dancehall, and EDM influences to create their succinct endeavour, DMGDZ are certainly looking to leave a lasting impression with this one.

It may be their first collaboration but 'DMGDZ' already feels like a project ready to take the world by storm. Finding and cultivating plenty of interesting ideas as it plays, these two are certainly lining themselves up for greatness with this dynamic new delight.
