Dusky - 'Outer'

7/10

After first emerging with their debut album 'Stick By This' back in 2011, Dusky quickly grew into one of this country's most proficient acts. Making a name for themselves in the clubbing scene, the London duo released a series of EPs with featured some of their biggest stand-out hits that no DJ could ignore. But they have now returned to the album format, and unlike a lot of their more familiar work to date, is far more ahead of its time.

Unlike the straight-up dancefloor smashes they have been producing up until now, 'Outer' is an album in the traditional sense. Meaning these are not just a collection of singles or separate works, but a fully cohesive release that is intended to be played as a whole. As a result, the pair have been able explore a more ethereal and avant-garde sound within the tech-house movement, and delivered an incredibly powerful release that shows them as one of the most creative names in today's electronic scene.

It has this larger-than-life feel that hasn't been heard in popular electronic music since Nero's debut album 'Welcome Reality'. It takes you by the gonads and doesn't let go, immersing you into their world from start to finish, and catching you by surprise throughout.
