Easy Life - 'Junk Food'

7/10

Although they have already made a serious impact with their bold and vibrant sound through 2019, it seems that this new year will unveil itself as the year in which they truly made it. Having already been placed second in the BBC's Sound Of 2020 poll, Easy Life have seen a huge rise in interest these last couple of weeks, which proves to have been the perfect time in which to drop 'Junk Food', a short seven-track mixtape of their most recent material, and boy does it sound good.

Until now, Easy Life's single releases have been met with great acclaim given how completely unknown they were this time last year. But with numerous comparisons to the likes of Animal Collective and Glass Animals on their previously shared cuts 'Dead Celebrities' and the Arlo Parks collaboration 'Sangria', it seems that this aesthetic is very much part of their overall sound as this mixtape looks to swoon and seduce just as much as it wants to stun and inspire. While it may not be the most cohesive release, the rough-around-the-edges approach is exactly how they wanted it to sound, giving it a sparkled and distinct charm.

There is clearly plenty of promise within 'Junk Food' for a fully formed album to emerge. The tracks featured each offer up something new and interesting from the band, but just have trouble gelling together in this form. A great collection from a band that we know are soon to become a huge talking point throughout this festival season.
