Fenech-Soler - 'Zilla'

7/10

After returning last year to deliver their glossy pop-driven EP 'Kaleidoscope', electro-pop outfit Fenech-Soler have stretched out their most recent material to deliver their third studio album 'Zilla'. Three of the four tracks from the 'Kaleidoscope' EP make an appearance on this new record, showing that this new album is simply a continuation of their recent writing progress yet still manages to showcase the band at their most engaging.

While the opener 'Kaleidoscope' has become a small cultural ident due to its use on a well-circulated TV advert, the rest of the record has no real trouble in keeping up with the pace of its beginnings. From start to finish, 'Zilla' manages to create a real ebb and flow of ideas and sounds, that maintain a good momentum and, most importantly, treat us to some very likeable cuts in the process.

Those that may remember being blown away by the band's self-titled debut from 2010 may well get a similar feeling when listening to this new full-length. While the group themselves may only have half the members they did when they started, Fenech-Soler have shown that they are far from out of ideas and are still looking to evolve their sound continuously.
