Foals - 'Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost - Part 2'

8/10

With double albums proving to be all the rage this year, none have been more highly-anticipated than the latest material from Foals. With their stunning 'Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost - Part 1' still shining in our minds and garnering the band yet another Mercury Prize nomination, the group now look set to finish what they started with 'Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost - Part 2', a record that sees the group add a far more boisterous and thunderous tone this time around.

While the band themselves have made a clear comparison between the two releases, it is obvious to see that this new collection has a far different sound than its predecessor. Swapping out many of their usually hypnotic and sweeping compositions for something more rugged and driven looks to be the ethos of this new album, focusing more on faster pace and bigger sounds. While there is clearly a sonic connection between the two, they feel more like two sides of the same coin. While 'Part 1' led us through a tapestry of warped and enticing indie-rock anthems, 'Part 2' is the evolution of that direction, giving us a much more anthemic feel this time around.

Musically, both records are stunning, which has been something we have grown to accept about Foals at this point in their careers. But even when they step outside of their box, they can still fascinate and intrigue us at almost every turn. It would be hard to pick a favourite between the two, given their subtle differences in tone, but this new collection certainly sees them end the year on a high.
