Getting To Know... Chxrlotte

Since first gaining public attention after writing a song about the comedic fantasy series Good Omens, 'Come With Me', which has since been streamed hundreds of thousands of times, Brighton-born artist Chxrlotte has now returned with her latest effort 'Lullaby'.

Taking her cues from their likes of Billie Eilish, 'Lullaby' sees her return in fantastic form. Bringing together a rich array of tranquil production, sweeping melodies, and some beautiful vocals at the helm, her newest gem sees her as a warm and vibrant talent emerging right now.

So with the single doing the rounds, we sat down with her to find out more about her background and what has inspired her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The piano. I’ve never had lessons but I started learning songs from Les Mis when I was about 12 and have kept playing since.

What has been the most prominent inspiration behind your music so far?

Definitely Twenty One Pilots - I love the fact that none of their songs really fit into any specific genre, but are all individually so good. They break a lot of ‘rules’ by mixing pretty unconventional things together, like rap and ukulele music, but it always works.

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

I was a bit of an emo kid, I was a die hard Fall Out Boy fan, which ended up being a sort of gateway drug into heavier music like A Day To Remember and Of Mice and Men.

What do you find is the best environment to find inspiration for your music?

I love writing outside, which obviously is less than ideal in winter!

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

At the moment I’m listening to the Hamilton soundtrack a lot, I know every word to the whole musical and love singing it in the car.

How many of your songs have you written about people you wish you’d rather forget?

None! Every single one of my songs is about mental health.

What has been the funniest moment in your career so far?

I think watching someone walk down the aisle to my song at their wedding! I can’t wrap my head around it at all, I thought it was hilarious but also very cool.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Twenty One Pilots! Their live shows are always amazing.

If you weren’t a musician, what other path do you think you might have taken?

Definitely politics, I’m a bit of a news junkie so if I’m not writing songs I’m almost certainly watching the news!

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Never to try to be anything other than myself.
