Getting To Know... The Entitled Sons

If you’ve caught The Entitled Sons live this year, chances are you’ve already felt the floor rumble beneath your boots. With every sold-out show, every sweaty crowd chant, and every teeth-rattling riff, the Somerset five-piece are causing a serious wave.

Now, as they drop their long-awaited debut album 'no clue', the band are lighting the fuse on another crowd-favourite: 'Win Some Lose Some'. A feral, no-holds-barred anthem soaked in grit and adrenaline, the single captures the ache of jealousy and the hunger to rise above it, all wrapped in pounding drums, snarling guitars, and frontman Charlie’s most combustible vocal yet.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with them to find out more about their origins and what has been inspiring them most over the years.

-

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

We all played the piano but honestly I think only Bill And Charlie fell in love with it.

Raff - guitar, still guitar!

Laurie - I still like the piano but I love the drums.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

A lot of classic rock tunes that dad was peddling!

What was the first album you remember owning?

Graham - Led Zeppelin 2 - still spectacularly proud of that choice!

Raff - Eleven Eleven by P-Diddy - not proud of that choice.

Bill - An Awesome Wave by AltJ

Charlie - God I can't remember but probably something really uncool by Little Mix!

Laurie - Royal Blood by Royal Blood

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Char & Laurie - Creep by Radiohead

Bill - Scream by Paulo Nutini or Supremacy by MUSE

Graham - Fortunate Son by CCR.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

We shout at each other, 5 people writing music together is a high stress environment, but when it works it's amazing.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Nothing But Thieves. Queens of the Stone Age. Turnstile. Wunderhorse, Fontaines.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I reckon it would have to be Muse or Queens of the Stone Age. (Although honestly probably Coldplay for the exposure!!)

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Listening to an audience sing back music at the top of their voice we have written, it feels like a validation, to know people like your music enough to sing it back.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The ring road around Birmingham!

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

A successful songwriter we knew once said "Keep it Dumb!" 3 of us are classically trained so we can get a bit carried away, and this is a useful thing to remember sometimes.
