Getting To Know... High Fade

Having already broken through with a vibrant run of releases this past year, Edinburgh-based trio High Fade continue their explosive ascent as they deliver their funk-filled new single 'Burnt Toast & Coffee'.

Channelling the same dynamic nature as early Red Hot Chili Peppers with a more disco-infused edge throughout, 'Burnt Toast & Coffee' makes for an incredibly fun and upbeat listen. Jam-packed with killer grooves, insatiable hooks, and infectious vocals throughout, this one will have you up and out of your seat in no time.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

As long as we are in the process of making and/or drinking coffee we will have some ideas.

Harry- QOTSA, Menahan Street Band, Nuyorican Soul, John Martyn, Joe Bataan.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Harry- Getting to play music with my 2 best friends and getting to play to loads of lovely people.

Oli- Getting to be around friends and playing for people who are up for it.

Calvin- Being able to put smiles on peoples faces, making them dance and feel good.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Harry- Working on things for a long period of time and not knowing if it’s going to work or not - that’s half the reason it’s also enjoyable though, that risk/reward can be the worst or best thing - so the unknowing nature of this industry can sometimes be frustrating but when something is pulled off it is the best feeling there is.

Oli- Bass’ are heavy.

Calvin- Honestly nothing, the trivial things like loading up and tearing down, and what not means nothing when everything else in this ‘job’ is surrounded by love and people.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Harry- Glenn Hughes told us to just “Believe, Believe, Believe.”

Oli- Never think you’re good enough, if you think you’re good enough you might as well quit, you can always be better.

Calvin- Don’t discredit yourself, believe yourself, and believe your initial gut feeling, it’s all you have. I love any musical advice as it applies to any real life situations too.
