What were the first instruments you fell in love with?

Matty fell in love with the guitar and still has a love for it and a huge desire for writing songs.

Sam also fell in love with the guitar and still loves playing guitar to this day, he likes the way that guitar parts don’t need to be complex to fit a song and always goes in to writing with that same idea.

Dan fell in love with bass, he liked the idea of learning to play so that he could be in a band with his brother Matty, and now they are both in The Hilder.

Ryan originally fell in love with the guitar before going on to become a drummer since he struggled playing guitar, poor Ryan.

What has been the most prominent inspiration behind your music so far?

As a group of lads we are very driven and we have a lot of desire which helps with our inspiration, because we are so motivated it also inspires us. As a band we are also determined to succeed as we all live in a small town and we love the idea of being known in our town as being successful and bringing memories with our songs and gigs.

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

We have all had a massive range of music that we love since being young lads, from indie rock/pop such as Arctic Monkeys and The Smiths to punk such as Green Day to rap like Eminem. This shows how our influences and ideas for our songs can be drawn from many different areas and can be heard in our songs.

Can you remember the first song that made you want to pursue a life in music?

Dan - November Spawned A Monster - Morrissey.

Matty - He can’t pinpoint a song but he remembers being at a White Stripes gig and telling his dad that he wanted to start playing guitar.

Ryan - American Idiot album by Green Day.

Sam - Not a specific song but the band Arctic Monkeys made him want to pursue a life in music.

When you wake up in the morning, what kind of music do you like to listen to?

We all like to listen to new and upcoming bands coming through This Feeling. We enjoy getting to know other bands and their music too.

How many of your songs have you written about people in your life?

Lost On You is our first release but there were a few different inspirations that went in to the song drawn from many people that we know and other life experiences that we’ve had. We have other songs currently being written which have also drawn inspiration from other experiences and our surroundings. We like to write about our first hand experiences.

What have been the most memorable moments in your career so far?

Recording and releasing our debut single Lost On You has been the most memorable experience for us all. We have all been in previous bands and with The Hilder It is still early days for us but it’s the first time where we have all felt as if we have released a song and promoted it properly and the results are positive for us so far.

Outside of music, what is your biggest passion?

Dan, Matty and Ryan are all family focused and enjoy spending time with their family whereas Sam enjoys his own time and other hobbies such as playing sports.

If you weren’t musicians, what other path do you think you might have taken?

We are all working lads and we are trying to pursue a successful path through The Hilder alongside all of us working and having bills to pay. It makes us even more determined to draw success from The Hilder so we are all dreaming big and hoping that we can push forward and make a living from the band.

And what advice would you give to other musicians looking to start a career in music?

We have all noticed how important it is to surround yourself with likeminded people who want to pull in the same direction as you. You need to all have the same desire and be able to get on with each other well as you will be spending a lot of time together.
