Getting To Know... House Of Strangers

From the quiet introspection of their lyrics to the layered emotional depth of their production, rising Sydney trio House of Strangers have carved out a world where fragility and power coexist. Formed by siblings Liam and Chloe Sinclair and longtime collaborator Ethan Munn, the collective returns with 'Asking Me Why', a genre-defying meditation on impermanence, fear, and the quiet courage it takes to let go.

Fusing indie-rock, alt-pop, and textured electronica, the track floats between analogue warmth and digital experimentation, mirroring the internal push and pull of its subject matter. It’s a song born from years of personal growth and musical evolution, crafted across time, and shaped by uncertainty.

So with the new single available now, we sat down with them to find out more about their origins and what has been inspiring them most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Guitar was the first instrument that I fell in love with. I started playing when I was 8 and the ability it gave me to be creative and express myself through an instrument is something that has stuck with me all my life.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I was really into anything with a great guitar riff, I loved learning all of the Rage Against the Machine songs.

What was the first album you remember owning?

The first album I remember owning was a compilation album of punk/rock songs similar to So Fresh, it had a great mix of stuff from Teenage Dirt Bag to United States of Whatever.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Enything by quickly, quickly. It’s such an amazing mix of all the things I love in music from guitar based writing, dynamic singing of male and female voices, to its production and the use of unique digital sounds.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I don't have an exact ritual, I find the process of writing music can be so different from song to song. Sometimes it just all comes effortlessly and sometimes you really have to fight hard for the ideas to come out. My main ritual is to tap into what I have been feeling and things that have been happening in my life and trying to reflect that in the music.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Some great artists I’ve been listening to are Alex G, quickly, quickly, Whitney and some older stuff like Paul Simon.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I’d love to open for Alex G. I've seen some of his shows here in Australia and it's always full of energy coupled with beautiful intimate moments.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

It’s the process of creating something that really reflects yourself in ways you can’t normally describe or put into words though normal conversation. It’s like a window into your true feelings. And when you finally put it all together it almost makes everything in your life make sense.

And what is the most frustrating part?

There are a lot of highs and lows in music. I think some of the more frustrating stuff is writer's block and feeling like your music isn’t being seen or heard.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Be true to your art and the process of creating and the rest will come.
