Getting To Know... Kate Gold

After the rapturous response to her previous singles 'Past Lives' and 'Fallin'' in recent years, US artist Kate Gold returns once again to deliver her shimmering new effort 'trees'.

Capturing more of that warm and invigorating alt-pop sound she has been building for herself, 'trees' makes for a rousing return to form throughout. With her spellbinding vocals layered across a compelling production from start to finish, she is continuing to shine as one of the more exciting names on the rise right now.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and what has been inspiring her most lately.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

I fell in love with the drums and the guitar.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I liked listening to pop music, reggae and R&B.

What was the first album you remember owning?

The first album I remember owning was Justin Bieber called My World 2.0.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Luther Vandross, the song was called 'Still in Love' - wish I had written that song because it was a very deep song.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I start with writing down ideas in my journal and humming the melody of how I want the song to progress, then I start writing paragraphs of how I want the song to sound.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I love listening to Billie Eilish, Lana Del Ray, The Marias, Pink Pantheress and Montell Fish at the moment.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I would love to open for Billie Eilish or Justin Bieber.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

I would say the creative process and sharing my love of music with the world.

What is the most frustrating part?

The most frustrating thing is making songs that you invest time in and not knowing which one you would like to share next with the world. Also not knowing how people will perceive your music for the first time.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Being consistent in your craft and surrounding yourself with people and a team that genuinely care about your growth and music aspirations.
