What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

I started singing at a young age since music played a big part in social settings in my culture. Vocals were my first instrument and the way I fell in love with music.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I grew up on a lot of hindi music since my parents didn’t listen to much english music. The english music my mother did listen to was mostly soul and R&B, so I loved a lot of Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston etc.

What was the first album you remember owning?

The first album I copped (or rather was burned for me by a friend) was Monkey Business by The Black Eyed Peas.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

White Ferrari by Frank Ocean

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I look for inspiration in the music first. So a lot of listening to things in vein of the vibe I’m going for at the moment. A little puff of something helps with the creative juices and then I start ideating.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Thee Sacred Souls are dope as well as Durand Jones and the Indications. Love the retro soul vibe.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Childish Gambino!

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Being able to express myself in any form I desire. It’s cathartic to put my emotions into a track and can get weight off my chest.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The marketing and branding side of things. I just want to make the music and be done.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

The music starts and ends with what makes you happy. Everything else comes after.
