What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Well, coming from a hip hop background, I wasn’t originally into many instruments. However, as I got older and ventured into other genres of music. I quickly fell in love with the electric guitar. From classic rock Icons such as Jimmi Hendrix, to the grunge era of Nirvana, the electric guitar always captivated me in the seemingly unlimited combinations of sounds that can be produced by it.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

As a kid, I was always naturally drawn to hip hop. I remember early days of riding in the car with my Dad. He would play the likes of Slick Rick, Kurtis Blow, KRS1, Rakim, LLCOOLJ, and many others from the early hip hop era. This proved to be the foundation of my love for the genre.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Jay Z’s “The Blueprint”.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Eminem’s song Infinite. I feel this song is a lyrical masterpiece.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Meditation and prayer in repetition before I write down a single word. I usually have at least half of the song memorized in my head before I write down a single word, sometimes it’s the whole song that comes to me in that state of stillness.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Kid Cudi is always my go to artist. I’ve been listening to his WZRD album with Dot Da Genius on repeat as of lately.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Opening for Kendrick Lamar would be a dream come true for me.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

I find the most rewarding part of being a musician is simply the process of creating something from start to finish. It almost feels like magic when you start with literally nothing and then end up with a masterpiece of a song. There is no greater feeling in the world to me than creating a complete song where nothing feels out of place.

And what is the most frustrating part?

In today’s world, musicians have to wear multiple hats. Not only do we have to make the music, but we must make the content for it, market it, promote it, advertise, constantly post on socials and other things of that nature. At times that can be frustrating because it can feel overwhelming trying to play all of the roles required for today’s artists in the modern music industry.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

The best advice I have received is just to stay patient and stay true to myself as an artist. Things don’t typically happen overnight for musicians but when we stay true, stay consistent, and stay patient. Success will come. Play the long game.
