Getting To Know... Roe's Garden

After establishing themselves with a flurry of intoxicating delights these last few months, LA-based outfit Roe's Garden continue their vibrant ascent with their woozy new single 'Day Job'.

Bringing back more of that warm and shimmering aesthetic they have been cultivating for themselves since they first emerged, 'Day Job' makes for a wonderfully rich and dreamy listen. With its sweet and immersive textures and sweeping hooks layered throughout, they are cementing themselves as one of the more exciting names on the rise right now.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with them to find out more about their background and what has been inspiring them most recently.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Un: Drums

Joe: Voice

Erica: Voice

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

Un: R&B

Joe: Like as a young kid? Michael Jackson, *NSYNC, Musical Theatre.

Erica: R&B and Pop

What was the first album you remember owning?

Un: In My Own Words - NeYo

Joe: Honestly probably the Dreamstreet album.

Erica: Elephunk - Black Eyed Peas

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Un: Any Michael Jackson song.

Joe: There are a ton of them. Let’s say Easy by The Commodores.

Erica: Stories by Refs

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Un: A lot of slouching over a piano, face in one hand and the other on the keys until something sticks.

Joe: I lay on the floor sprawled out until it comes to me.

Erica: I go on walks come up with little tunes in my head and pray that no one hears me as I discreetly sing it into my voice memos on my phone.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Un: Daniel Caesar, Lucky Daye, Kirby, LambC, Colde.

Joe: The Teskey Brothers, Vulfpeck (and affiliates), Gorillaz, Coco Jones, The Who.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Un: Snoh Aalegra

Joe: H.E.R.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Un: Being able to express through music.

Joe: Realising a dream.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Un: Having to be a salesman as well.

Joe: Realising a dream.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Un: Music is a language that you can speak as fluently as you practise.

Joe: You already are what you want to be.
