What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

My aunt was a handbell ringer and also a piano teacher. I remember getting a piano as a gift and taking lessons diligently. I really liked the sound of the piano.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I listened to a lot of classical music. I enjoyed listening to the beautiful chords and remember feeling so many different emotions from it.

What was the first album you remember owning?

I'm not sure, but I think it was the Korean boy group BIGBANG's album. They were very professional, and introduced hip hop to the younger generation and made it more mainstream in Korea. They had a great influence on me during my school days.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

In the past, when I heard a really good song, I used to think to myself what it would be like if this was mine, but now when I think about it, I think music is most valuable when it's expressed by the writer. I believe that the music that I write is the most valuable to me.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I open my notes and look over all the ideas I have written down, and I also record melodies and drum patterns that come to mind and then listen through the recordings. I often look for music that I haven't tried out before to try something new.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I've been listening to a lot of Toro y Moi.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Travis Scott's performances are always incredible. It would be a great honour to be a part of his show, but seeing him perform up close would also be a great inspiration.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

It makes me feel very happy when I see people fully immersed in and enjoy the music I make.

And what is the most frustrating part?

So many things scare me in this world. There are so many things I don't think I'll be able to accomplish, and I feel inadequate many times. When I feel this way, I just resort to listening to music with my eyes closed.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

“Believe in yourself. Love yourself. Don't be afraid” is the best advice I have received as a musician.
