After capturing global attention with her 2024 debut album 'Unforgiven', classically trained vocalist turned rock powerhouse Sophia Mengrosso returns with her most vulnerable release yet. Her new single 'Fading Into Silence' channels personal tragedy into a cathartic fusion of operatic grandeur, metal grit, and spiritual reflection. Written in the wake of her brother’s passing, the track explores reincarnation and the belief that human connection transcends a single lifetime, transforming grief into resilience through music.
Balancing delicacy with raw power, Mengrosso’s soaring voice cuts through a dynamic symphonic rock soundscape, evoking comparisons to Amy Lee and Tarja Turunen while carving a lane entirely her own. By merging her classical foundation with a fearless embrace of hard rock and metal, she positions herself as one of the most compelling voices in today’s genre-blurring scene.
So with the new single out now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and what has been inspiring her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
My first instrument was piano, I was really crazy about it! I did not want to go outside sometimes just to play the piano all day. After piano I started to play hard. At first I wanted to try it because it looked cool, and after trying it I loved its soul!
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
I have always loved heavy music! Even though I started as a classical singer, classical music was something I “had to do”. When I discovered metal and rock, it felt like I found my home. Besides the amazing instruments and ability to express my vocals, it was about fashion and make up! Dressing up for rock festivals was something I always looked forward to!
What was the first album you remember owning?
My first album was “Fallen” Evanescence!
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
“Tainted Love” Marilyn Manson
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I always wanted to have some ritual or a habit but that never happens! I am not super organized, and every time I am trying to plan something before writing, it always fails! So, I guess the best thing for me is chaos! So, my answer is no, I do not have any special rituals! But I wish I did, it sounds fancy!
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
Marilyn Manson!
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Connecting with people, meeting people, and sharing our life stories! It takes off the weight of this life when we can be together and not feel like no one cares.
And what is the most frustrating part?
For me the most frustrating thing is doubting myself, thinking that I am not good enough for this.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
To be honest I never received any advice that was good. I learned and still learning by making mistakes, and just hard work. I had more people in the music industry telling me how and why I should not be doing what I love rather than giving me any good advice or support. I am just being honest. I wish I could tell a different story but it is not.
