girl in red - 'I'M DOING IT AGAIN BABY!'

7/10

When she released her breakthrough debut LP 'if I could make it go quiet' in 2021, girl in red's Marie Ulven established herself as one of the more fascinating names to emerge that year. Having already cemented her place on the new music scene with a flurry of impactful EPs in the years prior, her first full-length was a strong and confident introduction to an artist brimming with unbridled potential. And after a quick spree of new outings this year, she returns with her sophomore studio album 'I'M DOING IT AGAIN BABY!', a record that sees her hone a more commercial appeal.

While her first release arrived through her own independent label, 'I'M DOING IT AGAIN BABY!' sees her signed to Columbia as it oozes major label influence. Gone are the warm and tender emotions of the early girl in red as she looks to explore a glossier and more euphoric ambition this time around. It may feel a little less organic than her previous effort, but still manages to pack itself with plenty of fresh and inventive offerings throughout.

Fans of her earlier work may be a little surprised at the change in direction here, but 'I'M DOING IT AGAIN BABY!' still suits her warm and bubbly persona from start to finish. Brimming with fun and lively delights, she returns with a spritely nature about her this time around.
