The House Flies bring a surprisingly infectious pulse to the darkness on ‘Lost Literature’, the second single from forthcoming album 'Lions and Ore'.
This new offering finds the Illinois four-piece leaning into the more immediate side of their gothic post-punk sound. Upbeat drums lock into a restless, danceable bassline while shadowy guitars and Alex Riggen's vocals maintain the brooding atmosphere that runs through the band's work.
There's also something wonderfully nocturnal about ‘Lost Literature’. Rental cars, quiet radios, highway darkness, porch lights and static flicker through lyrics concerned with memory and shifting identity, while the repeated vocal refrain gives the song an almost hypnotic circularity.
Following September's heavier ‘Derelict Crawl’, the single reveals another dimension of 'Lions and Ore' ahead of its 6th November release through Wilhelm & Sons Entertainment Company.
