Genre-defying collective Ibibio Sound Machine have unveiled details of their forthcoming album 'Chopping Mountain', set for release on the 11th September via Merge Records, alongside the vibrant first taste of the project, ‘Concept of Love’.
Fronted by the charismatic Eno Williams, the new track is a jubilant blend of groove-heavy rhythms, shimmering electronics and irresistible melodies. Built around an uplifting message of connection and compassion, the song combines dancefloor energy with a deeper sense of optimism, reflecting the band’s response to an increasingly uncertain world.
Accompanied by a striking new video, ‘Concept of Love’ showcases Williams’ commanding presence while drawing on both contemporary electronic sounds and the rich musical traditions that have always informed the group’s distinctive style.
Recorded largely at the band’s South London studio, Chopping Mountain sees Ibibio Sound Machine continuing to expand their musical horizons. Across the record, influences from highlife, Afrobeat, soul, post-punk and electronic music collide in a collection that celebrates community, perseverance and joy.
