KAWALA - 'Better With You'

7/10

Having been one of the most talked about new bands for the last two years, it feels like KAWALA have been building up to this moment for quite some time. With an array of bright and vibrant indie-pop delights under their belt already, they have slowly been drip-feeding us a rich and sweeping selection of offerings since 2020, culminating in a wonderfully light and uplifting repertoire to date. But now they cross the first major milestone of their career so far by delivering their long-awaited debut album 'Better With You', a record that looks to continue their compelling direction.

Much like what we have heard from them so far, 'Better With You' is a sweet and sun-kissed nosedive into their aesthetic, brimming with strong and shimmering tones that intend to get your feet moving. Looking to follow in the footsteps of other indie-pop trailblazers such as Bombay Bicycle Club and Two Door Cinema Club, KAWALA make a bold stake as the next in line to pass this torch. While it doesn't have much in the way of standout, radio-friendly singles, it still manages to create a brilliantly inviting atmosphere and keep the momentum moving forward from start to finish.

They have had the time to perfect this new collection these past couple of years, and it is clear they put it to good us. Throughout 'Better With You', there is rarely a moment that they aren't striving to give their fanbase exactly what they want, making for a succinct and cohesive listen that builds upon their sound to date.
