Milky Chance - 'Blossom'

5/10

Since releasing their debut album 'Sadnecessary' back in 2013, German duo Milky Chance have found themselves in much more different position that they were when the album dropped. It wasn't until after their initial release that national radio and press began to pick up on their sound, and with a number of cult hits in circulation ever since, the band have now returned with their high-profile second studio album 'Blossom'.

Much like its title suggests, 'Blossom' is certainly the sound of a band looking to come into full bloom. Now with a strong idea of what their fans like about their music, the pair have set out to create a far more cohesive release that still on occasions brings back the old eccentricities of their initial sound. However this new material doesn't quite have the same bite or intrigue as their debut record, playing it far more safe in terms of production and on the whole, delivering a far more pop-focused release.

At some points during a listen, you'll begin to realise that each track is more or less following the same formula, as each song aims to create a sing-along atmosphere. This is definitely an album for live shows, but overall just doesn't have that spark we originally saw in them.
