Oscar Cash - 'Oscar Cash Forever'

7/10

Last year, Metronomy returned with their sixth studio album 'Metronomy Forever'. Critics and fans agreed that this was a return to the band's heyday with its bright and euphoric tones reminiscent of their earliest material. But while we were all enjoying the bold and warming feeling that record was giving us, the band's multi-instrumentalist Oscar Cash was hard at work creating something vastly different but completely in line with the band's output. And after a few extra months to really bring his ideas together, he now delivers 'Oscar Cash Forever', a collection of Metronomy reworks that look to define his own personal sound.

While this is not intended as a remix album, it does have that presence about it. Each track features additions and/or vocals from a cut lifted from 'Metronomy Forever', but these are simply intended to form the base to which Oscar can add his own flair and diversity to. Although the connection behind his own style and Metronomy is apparent throughout this new collection, there are plenty of moments that see him move into more experimental realm. Keeping the rest of the band's input at arm's length and delivering a release that strips back their formative sound to unveil a far more intimate full-length.

Metronomy's frontman Joe Mount praised Oscar's inventive nature throughout the release of their new album, and it is clear to see why on this eight-track collection. 'Oscar Cash Forever' is a bright and breezy offering that manages to move away from the more mainstream focused elements of their direction, and create something with more delicate attention paid to it.
