Poliça & s t a r g a z e - 'Music For The Long Emergency'

5/10

Over the last few years, Poliça have consistently delivered some of the most interesting and powerful music we have heard from anyone. Their synth-pop disposition has opened them up to become one of our favourite groups of the moment, and now it seems they are embarking on something that far removes them from their comfort zone; a collaborative album with the Berlin-based orchestra s t a r g a z e.

While the idea of an electronically focused group teaming up with a classical arrangement may sound fairly expected in these times, seeing as we have heard many similar acts do similar things, these two are not your average outfits, and therefore 'Music For The Long Emergency' does look to be more than simple rework of Poliça's tried and tested direction. However despite their best intentions, much of this record is simply too experimental to enjoy to its full extent.

Maybe it is a case of too many cooks, but there just doesn't seem to be much focus from either side on this record. Each track seems to want to play by its own tune and never really gets the start it is trying for. A so-so release from an outfit we were sure would deliver better.
