Royal Tusk - 'Daybreaker'

8/10

Having barely had a chance to compose themselves after their brilliant EP 'Mountain', Canadian rock outfit Royal Tusk have returned with a new album and are already looking to become the next poster boys of North American rock. Much like 'Mountain', this new album 'Daybreaker' has all the energy and creativity you need at the start of your career and it seems like they have both those qualities to spare.

With a Southern Rock twang to the opener 'Dynamo', the record quickly kicks out the jams with 'Curse The Weather', and from then on you'll be smitten. The album likes to hark back to an Americana sound, similar to bands like The Hold Steady and The Gaslight Anthem, showing that this band are more than just a bunch of catchy riffs. They can write incredible tunes that put faith back into a genre that the UK has fallen out of love with the last few years.

Consistant and powerful, 'Daybreaker' is already an early contender for rock record of the year and with good merit. They may still be in their infancy, but Royal Tusk are certainly no amateurs and this album is proof of that.
