Sigma - 'Life'

5/10

While drum n bass may not be the instant chart topper it was some years ago, arguably the only act who has managed to reach international acclaim with the genre in the last year in Sigma. With a few number 1's to their name, the pair have now compiled everything from their last 18 months into one digestible bite and it definitely doesn't have the punch you would expect.

While their success has obviously been a huge advantage for them, the result of this album is the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" as 'Life' is one long pop DnB single. Once you realise their formula (soulful vocal and piano intro, followed by rising DnB break, before climaxing at the basic singalong chorus), its amazing how boring it can become in one go. Obviously they have tried to mix things up with 'Running' and 'Glitterball' by using a breakbeat instead of an amen, but really as far as the diversity spreads on this new release.

Certainly, if you are a fan of their work, then go and knock yourself out. But even the hardest Sigma fan may find the repetition a little tiresome by the end.
