Sink Ya Teeth - 'Two'

7/10

After stunning us with their terrific self-titled debut album back in 2018, Norfolk's alt-dance duo Sink Ya Teeth have been hard at work building up a bigger and broader appeal to their abstract and irreverent sense of direction. Taking influence from the post-punk era and melding it with sparse yet pulsing electronics has given the pair a unique path within the scene, and it looks like they have looked to deliver an even wider array of offerings as they share their hotly-tipped sophomore LP 'Two', a record that looks to take the lessons of their first record and return with something even grander.

Unlike other dance-led projects like LCD Soundsystem and FRMTN in recent years, much of the focus on this new collection is in the production of the album itself. While the duo regular inject their dark and atmospheric vocals onto each track, the bulk of sound on here remains instrumental, allowing us to truly feel the weight of sound they have created. It has this progressive feel to it that also seems to rely heavily in looped musical concepts. Much of these singles start with a simple loop that remains constant, which they look to add and adapt as it moves along, giving the release a strong and vibrant pace that is hard not to get swept up in.

It is always hard to make a form of dance music that doesn't really on big and brash beats to get your audience moving, but Sink Ya Teeth seem to have found it in spades. You regularly find yourself feeling every facet of groove they have composed throughout, which makes for a smooth and engaging listen than sounds like next to nothing we usually hear these days.
