SRCMTRL - 'Greenery'

7/10

Ever since he first broke through with his stunning debut album 'La Vita è Bella' in 2020, elusive producer SRCMTRL has been seen as one of the more progressive names on the underground hip-hop scene. His broad and spacey approach to beats and grooves has seen him adopt a brilliantly distinctive direction for himself, cemented by the innovative pursuit of his 2022 sophomore outing 'the wrlds finest'. Now looking to showcase that adventurous spirit once again, he returns with his latest concept EP 'Greenery', a collection of remixes focusing on a herbal nature.

Reworking original releases from the likes of Chuuwee, Shirt, Nature, Termanology throughout this new collection, SRCMTRL adds his unique flair to each of these breezy efforts, heightening his already powerful aesthetic at every turn. While the warm and playful appeal of his earlier material still remains a constant throughout this new release, the producer still manages to find new and interesting ideas in which to turn these four singles into a strong and cohesive listening experience from start to finish.

While the legacy of SRCMTRL has never been in doubt, 'Greenery' feels like a bold step forward within his enigmatic evolution of late. With each track its own small journey throughout the beatmaker's shimmering tones and textures, this new EP stands as one of his most endearing releases yet.

'Greenery' is available now through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms via Crisis Center Collective.
