Tyson Dickert - 'Supervoid'

7/10

Tyson Dickert’s fourth solo album 'Supervoid' is an experience built for volume. Across the record, brooding atmosphere and cinematic restraint repeatedly give way to huge distorted guitars, creating a constant push between introspection and physical impact as it plays.

Throughout the release, the frontman is clearly comfortable with letting songs take their time, allowing quieter passages to gather tension before the heavier sections break through. The effect is about creating a sense of scale, where small details can suddenly open into something much larger.

Lead single ‘A Thousand Quiet Revolutions’ captures that balance particularly well. Its title alone suggests the kind of tension that runs through 'Supervoid': change happening beneath the surface before finally becoming impossible to ignore. It's a track that sits naturally within an album focused more with movement, pressure and release.

Musically, there are traces of alt-rock, post-rock and darker cinematic flair throughout, but he avoids locking himself too closely to any one reference point. Instead, the record feels shaped by years of experience and a clear understanding of dynamics. Guitars are allowed to sound heavy and imperfect, rhythms breathe, and the production retains enough roughness to keep the music feeling human.

It's a detail that matters because 'Supervoid' was created entirely by Tyson in his home studio over eight months. Writing, performing, recording and mixing everything himself could easily have produced something overly controlled, but this album feels deliberately resistant to excessive polish.

After more than three decades of making music, 'Supervoid' finds Tyson Dickert honing in on scale, texture and emotional weight. Dense, immersive and often exhilarating, it's exactly the kind of record that makes most sense when the volume is pushed high enough for the guitars to take over the room.
