Lyena return with new single 'Romeo'

Following on from the release of their highly-praised offering 'Boy Toys' earlier this year, London-based outfit Lyena have now returned to deliver their explosive new single 'Romeo'.

Described as sitting on the heavier side of their repertoire to date, 'Romeo' instantly marks itself as one of their more energetic efforts. While still maintaining plenty of that raw and blistering post-punk sound they have been peddling so far, this new release showcases them as a bold and vivid name emerging on the scene, packing itself with fresh and soaring hooks at every turn.

Speaking about the new offering, vocalist Omar McKay said, “We wanted to write a track that explored the idea of being anti-anti-racism and the concept of digital aggression. I imagined a character, Romeo, who’s the kind of person who boos when someone takes a knee and who racially abuses a young black footballer on social media, and really try to understand what would go through his mind acting in that way.

“People behave differently behind a screen, or in a group when they think there’s a low risk of being caught out and having to answer for what they’ve done. Musically, the track follows that journey and inner monologue throughout the verses and choruses before the feeling of doubt and self-awareness sets in.”

Having already impressed so many over the years, 'Romeo' feels like the beginning of an adventurous turn for the group. Have a listen to it in the player below.
