Jovi Skyler - 'Nothing To Do'

7/10

Throughout the last few years, Australian artist Jovi Skyler has been on a bold and thunderous journey since first emerging back in 2019. Turning out a wealth of broad and riveting punk-inspired anthems as often as possible, he quickly found a solid direction in which to take his aesthetic when he delivered his highly-praised self-titled EP in 2020, bringing his direction to an instantly wider audience. But now he looks to cement his legacy to date with his shining debut album 'Nothing To Do', a record brimming with raw and explosive ambition.

Featuring a whole host of previously released gems in the year prior, 'Nothing To Do' is a warm and uncompromising approach to his grunge-inspired pursuit to date. Blending a heady mix of rip-roaring guitars, thunderous drums, and his own vibrant vocal performance leading the charge, he has taken the rich and emotive angst of his formative years, and pushed the passion within as far as it will go here.

Clearly doing his best to emulate the shimmering appeal of early Nirvana records throughout this new offering, 'Nothing To Do' stands as a wonderfully fresh and appealing collection. Bringing something new and interesting to a genre is never an easy feat, but Jovi Skyler seems to carry this mantle with style and aplomb from start to finish.
